Silent Weekend 26th February 2023

Sheen Lions along with all teams in the Surrey youth League will be observing the FA Silent Support Weekend at all our matches on 26 February.

To be clear we are asking the spectators to show their support through applause only when the match is in play. This gives players a better opportunity to find their own voice and develop their game.

What to do at the Silent Weekend?

  • Allow players to make mistakes
  • Allow players to make their own decisions
  • Applaud good play and effort from either team

What are the benefits of the Silent Weekend?

  • Players can concentrate on the game and not be distracted by the touchline
  • Players develop independent learning and decision-making
  • Coaches can assess the team’s communication skills

Misconduct has spiralled out of control in this and many other local leagues. Particularly spectators and managers abusing match officials. The league will do everything it can to remove from the league those who continue to abuse match officials.

Please make this weekend a success.

The FA have provided an asset pack to support the silent weekend, available here: https://we.tl/t-xfPWKJ82pX

Nyika School Zimbabwe

Nyika School, Mashonaland Zimbabwe

For many years, after a couple of seasons use Sheen Lions donate our match shirts to KitAid to send on to young players in Africa. (One of the reasons that it is always important to return your match shirt!)

One of the recipients, Nyika School in Mhondoro district in Mashonaland Zimbabwe, has recently written to KitAid thanking them for their continued support and KitAid have passed their message on with some photos.

Sheen Lions Saturday Training 14th Jan

Message from Club Sec:

With very heavy rain overnight continuing through the morning training is cancelled today.
The ground wasn’t great last week and I suspect it will be even worse this week after the rainfall we’ve had.

Palewell Closed 17th – 18th Dec

We regret that due to the cold weather the pitches at Palewell are unplayable. There will be no Saturday training on 17th or home matches on Sunday 18th.

Players due to play at home on Sunday must look out for messages from your Manager. Your opposition has the option to host the match within certain time constraints. It seems unlikely any will be able to do this but there is a possibility.

Players due to play away must also look out for messages from your Manager in case your opposition cancel. They may do this early on Sunday. Clearly we will not be hosting any away games cancelled at Palewell this Sunday.

All, have a good festive break, and be ready to resume in the first week on 2023.

Home Games Cancelled 11th December

ALL HOME GAMES ARE OFF TOMORROW.

Please let opposition, referees, parents and players know.

Managers: remember to still do your match cards to avoid a fine.
