How To Join

How to Join a Sheen Lions Team

It Is Best To Approach Us in May

League football starts in September but we select and register our squads for the coming season in May, June and July at the end of the previous season.

Players that will be U6, U7, U8, U9, U10, U11 or U12 in the following season should join our Summer Soccer Six program to trial. For these age groups Summer Soccer Six is the best way to try Sheen Lions.

Existing members of the club will be automatically invited to SS6. New members should contact us by the first week in May (SoccerSix@sheenlions.org) at the latest to request an invite. Please provide your child’s name and date of birth.

During May or June, if you will be U13 or above in the following season you should contact a manager in your current age group directly to arrange a trial. Please use email for your enquiries, our managers are volunteers and not usually available on the phone.

From September, During the Season

U6, U7  may join to train with the Club at any time during the season. These age groups do not play regular fixtures.

For U8, U9, U10 and U11 you may join as a training member in our “Cubs” squad. You will be registered by us with the League and have the opportunity at training to win a place for selection  in a match squad. We do arrange some round robin tournaments for the training players during the season.

During the season U6, U7, U8, U9, U10 and U11 should contact registrations@sheenlions.org and ask for an invitation to register, please provide your child’s name and date of birth..  Once you have registered you may attend one training session as a trial; you must then complete your membership by paying your fees and sending in any documents required by us to register you with the League to play matches.

For U12 age groups and above you should contact a team manager in the relevant age group to enquire about possible openings. These squads trial in May, June and July and register their players ready for September. It may be possible to add a few players during the season. Please use email for your enquiries, our managers are volunteers and not usually available on the phone.

All current initiatives in relation to recruitment and open days will be announced in the News section of our website.

How Teams Work

A few words about how teams work:

  • In each groups we run a number of teams which will be playing at different divisional levels suited to squad strength.
  • We arrange for all teams in an age group to train next to each other and they often do joint sessions. All players in an age group will get to know each other as some will likely switch squad as they develop.
  • Training for U7-U11 age groups takes place at Palewell Common on Saturday mornings whereas training for the U12-U18 teams takes place on weekdays in the evening under floodlights.
  • Matches are played on Sundays.
  • The official season runs from September to early May.

Do You Want to Get Involved and Support an U6 or U7 Development Squad?

Sheen Lions FC exists exclusively for the benefit of children. To get your boy and other young boys into football perhaps running a young development squad might be something for you? Youth football is entirely based on the active involvement of parent volunteers.

If you would like to help starting a development squad we would like to hear from you. Sheen Lions will provide the coaching setup just as long as you will take an active role in recruiting and organising your squad. For inquiries please contact:
