2021-22 Season Plan For U12

Parents/carers

This is to inform you of the club’s intentions regarding next season. The current U11s will move up to U12s, and will continue to play 9 a side. However, U12s football is considered a new start as it now becomes competitive football. This means players CANNOT move across from squad to squad as they did with development football. They now play for the squads they are signed up to and can only move across to a different squad by way of an official transfer with the League taking place. Matches are forfeited if not played. Scores and tables are kept. Divisions are there to be won.

History tells us that there will be some big changes at this age. As players move schools, and often move from the area, it will have an impact on the club as we will inevitably lose some players due to those commitments and priorities. Therefore our plan is to run 3 x playing squads, with good numbers. This is a progression the club has adopted over the years.

Larger squad numbers allows for the 3 competitions they will play, the League, the League/Invitation Cup and the Surrey County Cup. These competitions can run over the half term Sundays when often many players are away. Injury and illness issues may also prove prevalent throughout the season, therefore larger squads will help to take the pressure off players to be available and  allows managers to have the squad numbers needed to field a team each week and not have to forfeit games due to availability issues. However, it also means that the players will find it more competitive to earn their place for match day selection. They will need to attend training regularly to be considered for match play.

Currently, managers and coaches are assessing ALL existing, and any new players, through trials and training so squad selections can be made. Some of the traits they have been looking at are effort, reliability, ability, commitment, attitude, discipline, timekeeping, appearance. These will no doubt apply too when making match day selections.

Sheen Lions F.C. is a Sunday League football club. The club’s purpose is to train and prepare players for Sunday League football so it wants players that are serious about playing Sunday League football for Sheen Lions F.C. It is expected that our players are always available for possible match selection (illness & injury aside) and to play on Sundays, if selected. Therefore it should be noted that players involved with any other activity on Sundays will not be considered for the squads.

Undoubtedly some players will be disappointed at not being selected. Please be prepared for that. If you are offered a place with the club, and you accept, you will need to register with the club promptly when asked. This will be used as a measure to know that these squads are viable. Of course you are at liberty to reject the offer and look for League football elsewhere.

Should you have any questions, please direct them to the managers.

In the meantime, the club is looking forward to running 3 squads and hopes next season brings enjoyment and success for all the players.

Next season the U12s will train on Friday 5.30 – 7.00pm at Rosslyn Park.

It is mandatory that the club’s training kit, and shin pads are worn.
Match day kit is NOT TO BE WORN. Appropriate footwear for 4g surface to be worn. Incorrect footwear will result in the player not being allowed to train. Spectators are to remain in the designated spectator areas.
