First Matches For Sheen Lions U8

U08 2025-26

On Saturday 29th of November some of our under 8’s headed to Westside FC to play a couple of friendly matches. It was the under 8’s first competitive matches and a big step in their development.

Led by head coach Michael and his assistant coach Harry, the enthusiasm of all the boys was fantastic. All the matches were incredibly competitive and played in the spirit of the game. The boys listened to their coaches and visibly improved throughout the morning. All the boys were given the chance to play in different positions and most importantly they all played their hearts out.

It was such an enjoyable experience for the boys and a massive thank you goes out to Westside FC for being such brilliant hosts.

Michael.

Silent Weekend 16th November 2025

Sheen Lions along with all teams in the Surrey Youth League and the Surrey County Womens and Girls League will be observing the FA Silent Support Weekend at all our matches on 16th November.

To be clear we are asking the spectators to show their support through applause only when the match is in play. This gives players a better opportunity to find their own voice and develop their game.

What to do at the Silent Weekend?

  • Allow players to make mistakes
  • Allow players to make their own decisions
  • Applaud good play and effort from either team

What are the benefits of the Silent Weekend?

  • Players can concentrate on the game and not be distracted by the touchline
  • Players develop independent learning and decision-making
  • Coaches can assess the team’s communication skills

Misconduct has spiralled out of control in this and many other local leagues. Particularly spectators and managers abusing match officials. The league will do everything it can to remove from the league those who continue to abuse match officials.

Please make this weekend a success.

The FA have provided an asset pack to support the silent weekend, available here: https://we.tl/t-U4sOZ4jqZE

So let’s get our players involved.

On Saturday 15th November, at training, there will be mini tournaments played
for the younger ones, U5s. U6s. U7s. U8s.

Managers/Coaches…keep accurate scores please.

On Sunday 23th November, for every goal scored and every clean sheet kept, the club will donate the following for the U9s through to U18s.

Managers/Coaches…keep accurate scores please.

There will also be added money to the pot for those players that wear the correct kit including socks and the mandatory Sheen Lions rain jacket to training on Saturday.

It’s a really good incentive for all the players to do their bit, feel involved and help contribute. I’m sure you agree this is the right thing to do, even more so in these very difficult times, and will support the club in supporting these worthy charities.

UNDER 17’s CLINCH THE LEAGUE IN DRAMATIC FINALE

Sheen U17 Lions 2024-25

After 8 months of league fixtures, it all came down to the last Sunday and a double header against AFC Walcountians. Our Under 17’s had been magnificent all season, losing only one fixture when a series of injuries left us with no central defenders. The boys had always turned up and delivered when required scoring late goals on a number of occasions to clinch the points. We were top going into the double header and needed a minimum of 4 points to win the league. Wandgas & Colliers Wood were sat just behind us waiting to pounce if we slipped up.

Walcountians were the form team in the league having lost narrowly in the semi finals of the cup and were on a long unbeaten run in the league. Their defensive record was the best in the league. We took a big squad to the game and Hatch got the boys ready. Double headers are tough to win and you really cannot afford to go a goal down. The game was scrappy but Sheen played the better football and created the best chances but the goal just wouldn’t come. The second half was more of the same and the game looked to be heading for a draw. In the end it was a bit of industrial football that sealed the points. George A hurled a long throw into the box, Felix flicked it on and Adam headed in at the far post. The last ten minutes were nervy and Finn had to produce a brilliant save but the points were ours. Part one completed.

The second double header could not have been more different. Walcountians dominated and created the best chances. We just couldn’t get going. They scored a scrappy goal and celebrated as though they had won the league. Hatch made changes. Lots of them. Ten minutes to go and we seemed to be playing a 2-3-5 formation. It was frantic. There were a lot of near misses and goalmouth scrambles but we just couldn’t get the goal. We moved into added time. Two of them as the Ref pointed out. We needed some magic.

A corner was headed back out to Adam on the right. He hooked a cross to the edge of the box where George A leapt and headed the ball towards the goal. It was going over until the last seconds when it dipped just under the bar into the top corner. Wow!. The players and subs went wild. The celebrations were incredible. We had done it! The last play of the season saw us get the point that won us the league.

Congratulations to a brilliant group of boys who have trained hard, played harder and supported each other throughout the season. A fitting end. Sheen Lions Under 17’s. CHAMPIONS.

Cheers

Mel
