Sheen Lions Children In Need 2022

Sheen Lions FC has supported Children In Need over the years and is delighted to support it once again.

In addition, Sheen Lions FC will also donate to FareShare, the charity Marcus Rashford has supported, helping to feed children around the country.

So let’s get our players involved. On Saturday, tomorrow, at training there will be mini tournaments played. On Sunday, for every goal scored and every clean sheet kept, the club will donate the following.

  • £5.00 for every goal scored
  • £10.00 for every clean sheet

It’s a really good incentive for all the players to do their bit, feel involved and help contribute. Managers/Coaches.. keep scores please.

I’m sure you agree this is the right thing to do, even more so in these very difficult times, and will support the club in supporting these worthy charities.

Update 30th November

I am delighted to report that our players really did play their part over the Children in Need weekend. Scores and clean sheets have been added up. ALL the goals scored and clean sheets kept by the Saturday training groups together with the scores and clean sheets on Sunday resulted in Sheen Lions F.C. donating a huge £925.00 in total.

  • £600.00 has gone to Children in Need
  • £325.00 has gone to FareShare.

Please congratulate all the players on their fantastic achievement.

Thank you everyone for your support with the club’s effort to donate to these very worthy charities.

SYL Statement

Club Secretary, the SYL have chosen to take part in the “FA Silent Weekend Programme” Please see below information from the FA. We ask that all age groups across the entire league take part in this.

FA Silent Weekend

Please play your part in a weekend of football that’ll leave you speechless. We’re promoting a National Silent Support Weekend where leagues and clubs across the country are asking all spectators and coaches to show their support through applause only when the match is in play. This gives players a better opportunity to find their own voice and develop their game. Not sure? Let’s have a go, then tell us what you thought about it. And ask your parents and coaches to tell us too. There will be a short survey, via a digital link shared after the weekend so we can all understand the impact and make improvements for the future.

What to do at the Silent Weekend?

• Allow players to make mistakes

• Allow players to make their own decisions

• Applaud good play and effort from either team

What are the benefits of the Silent Weekend?

• Players can concentrate on the game and not be distracted by the touchline

• Players develop independent learning and decision-making

• Coaches can assess the teams’ communication skills

Join us on the 5th & 6th November 2022 and find out what happens when we turn the volume down for the players on the pitch.

Autumn Half Term 2022

A reminder that tomorrow 15th is the last Saturday training before the half term break.

There will be no training on 22nd or 29th, it resumes on 5th November.

Training dates are shown on the calendar on each team page.

Training Saturday 10th September and Friday 9th

All football matches have been cancelled for Sunday 11th September. However training will go ahead on Friday 9th and Saturday 10th September as scheduled.

There will be a minutes silence before each session to remember Her Majesty The Queen.

No Matches – Sunday 11th September

Her Majesty the Queen was a long-standing Patron of The Football Association and has left a lasting and indelible legacy on our national game.

As a mark of respect, following the passing of Her Majesty the Queen, English football has united to postpone all football fixtures between 9-11 September including Grass Roots football.

The Surrey Youth League have informed their members that out of respect for HM Queen Elizabeth and the President of The Football Association, Prince William, the decision has been taken by The FA and other football governing bodies that all football fixtures are to be cancelled this weekend. This includes all Surrey Youth Leagues games scheduled for Sunday 11th September.

No football including friendlies will be played.

Sheen Lions F.C. thoughts are with the Royal Family at this very sad time.

Coaches v Parents 2022

Saturday afternoon saw the return of the coaches v parents fixture, this time taking place at Rosslyn Park.

This is a a fixture organised by the coaches to develop the relationship and morale between parents and coaches – and to have a great time!

This year was also designed to raise money for charity in the memory of our friend and fellow manager Terry Buckland.

The game was played in a great spirit and after a few tactical adjustments at half time, the coaches ran out worthy winners.

Well done to all involved and we look forward to the 2023 fixture.
