Registering With The FA and SYL

To Play in the Surrey Youth League and the Surrey County Women’s and Girls League players must be registered on the FA system. Age Groups U08 and older are registered, younger age groups do not need to send in anything unless specifically requested.

The instructions below will guide parents through this process.

Please note that you cannot ignore your email Spam folder, you must check it every day or two. You will be getting messages from the FA registration system and you need to act on them.

October 2023: I have changed the approach to connect a Parent’s FAN to the child’s FAN, instruction below are updated accordingly.

Actions Needed

Providing Proof Of ID

If you receive an email from registrations1@sheenlions.org asking for “Proof Of Age Required“: you must reply on this email attaching a photo of your child’s passport page. If they do not have a passport then their birth certificate.

If you are new to the Club then you will certainly receive this email, you can be ahead of the game by sending in the document when you register to join and have paid.

Providing An ID Photo

If you receive an email from registrations1@sheenlions.org saying “ID Photo Required“: you must reply all on this email attaching the photo requested.

Make sure that you read http://sheenlions.com/id-photo-on-fa-site/, I am very fussy about the photos because the SYL and SCWGL are very fussy.

Make sure that your email is sending the full sized version of photos, some phones down sample by default, this is no good.

Player’s FAN

A FAN is a personal account on the FA system. All players including children must have their own FAN

If your child already has a FAN I will have already found it and connected it to the Club. If I have not found a FAN I will create it. Usually I will wait till I receive Proof of ID before I do this. PARENTS SHOULD NOT CREATE A PLAYER FAN but if your child already has one let me know its FAN number? (registrations1@sheenlions.org).

Parent’s FAN

If your child is less than 16 then at least one parent must have a FAN and this has to be connected to the child’s FAN so that they can give Consent for the child to play for the club.

If your child already had a FAN you may already be connected. If not, or if I have created the child’s FAN then I will cause the FA system to invite you to connect using the email address you have registered with.

Parent Already Has FAN

This means that you have a FAN and it uses the email address I know about. I believe that the FA message is now easily dealt with.

Parent Does Not Have FAN

The FA message will know that you do not have a FAN (associated with the email) and it will guide you to create one.

Once you have created your FAN you should be able to deal with connection to your child. If you have difficultly ask me to resend the connection request, you will now have a FAN and it will be easy to deal with as above.

Player Over 16

Once over 16 a parent does not give Consent to play for the Club, the child does this. For this to happen the the child’s email address must be on their FAN. You can put this on yourself or email it in to registrations1@sheenlions.org and I will add it.

This usually affects new joiners, U16 that join during the season after their 16th birthday and U17 (younger U18).

Consent To Play

Once the child has a FAN and the Parent is connected (or player email added over 16), the FA system can be asked to send a Consent request. To play for the Club there must be a positive reply.

Sheen Lions Cubs Squad

We do not want to turn players away in the younger age groups, however demand is high and there is a limit to the number of teams we can support playing in the Surrey Youth League.

If a player cannot at the time be included in a match squad (Lions, Pride, Hoops or Rangers) then they will be offered the opportunity to register with Sheen Lions in our Cubs squad and so to continue their footballing experience with us.

Cubs players are registered with the league and can be selected for a match by any match squad manager. We will move players into the match squads when their development justifies their inclusion and when a space can be made available.

Cubs players are members or Sheen Lions and registered by us with the Surrey Youth League. They cannot train or play for any other Club.

Sheen Lions Summer Soccer Six 2022

Once again Sheen Lions F.C. will be running its popular Summer Soccer Six programme. It’s a great opportunity for managers to look at players, old and new, with a view to making team selections for next season.

Existing members will receive an email invite to book in April 2022. They must complete their boking within the priority window stated in the invite.

Others who are thinking of taking up football, or considering changing clubs may request an invitation by entering details now on our Trial Request Form and selecting Summer Soccer Six. Once we have given our existing members an opportunity to book SS6 we will offer remaining places available to those that have requested trials, there will be a limited time to accept this offer before the place is then offered to others lower down the list.

Children to wear appropriate attire INCLUDING SHIN PADS and should bring refreshments (no fizzy drinks or sweets).

  • Current Sheen Lions players must wear their Sheen Lions training kit.
  • Players trialling do not need Sheen Lions kit
  • You MUST have boots, they should be suitable for hard ground, moulded or short studs.
  • You MUST have shin pads
  • If we are lucky you may need sun protection
  • If we are not you may need a rain jacket or sweat shirt

Payment must be received at the time of booking to reserve a place. The Fee will be £55 regardless of how many of the six sessions you can attend. Payment instructions will be on your invitation email and payment must be made at the time of booking to reserve your place.

If you are approaching from the east or the A3 you will find it easier to park in Bank Lane, Roehampton and use the eastern entrance to Palewell Common as indicated on the map. If you are approaching from the west or the A316 it is easier to park on Palewell Common Drive.

PLEASE NOTE that cars double/tripled parked on this road are likely to incur fines, as these roads are patrolled by parking officials. Roads must be kept clear for emergency vehicles to gain access.

Joining Sheen Lions – Autumn 2021

If you wish to join Sheen Lions then you should apply to be invited for a trial. To be places on the waiting list to be invited for a trial please complete the short application form available here.

If you have applied to trial we will, when we can send you an email invite to register details before you attend to trial. No player may attend any Sheen Lions sessions until they have registered with the Club and received a confirmation email. You are advised to periodically monitor your Spam so you do not miss invites and other messages from the Club.

In the Development age groups, U11 and younger, we are now NOT taking any more players to trial before January. Please complete the enquiry form above to go on the waiting list for an invite.

U7 and U8 age groups should now look at U6, U7 and U8 Age Groups – January 2022. We will issue revised advice for new joiners in January 2022.

FA FAN For Parents

These instructions are now superseded by http://sheenlions.com/registering-with-the-fa-and-syl/

Sheen Lions players must be registered on the FA system to play in the Surrey Youth League.

For almost all players (younger than 16) the child’s FAN is managed by a parent and they must have their own FAN to do this.

If you do not have a FAN then you need to go to https://myaccount.thefa.com/ and create one.

Once you have a FAN it needs to be linked to your child. If you are already linked to your child then you are good to go, provided you have told the Club your child’s FAN.

If you are not linked and you cannot link then then you need to email registrations@sheenlions.org with your child’s name, your name (as it appears on your FAN) and your date of birth. We need this information to link the FANs.

Once you are linked you will be able to give consent and you will need to load an ID photo for your child following this guidance. http://sheenlions.com/id-photo-on-fa-site/

Once you and your child are set up on the FA system you should email to registrations@sheenlions.org

  1. A high resolution copy of the ID photo that you have used
  2. A picture of your child’s passport page.

ID Photo On FA Site

This how your photo should look on the FA player registration system, at the current time you should email your photo in and the club will set it up.

Follow ALL these instructions:

  • Do not use an old photo
  • Do not take a picture of a picture
  • face the camera
  • shoulders face the camera
  • all of face in shot
  • The face must be clear
    • No head coverings
    • No glasses
  • Only person in shot
  • The league and the fa do not insist in a plain background but Sheen Lions do, find a plain wall or a door.
    • Plain means that the background is of a single uniform colour that contrasts with the child.
  • Leave plenty of space around the face including the top of the head.
    • The photo is going to be cropped square so there needs to be space either side of the head. It is better to have quite a wide shot than to be in too tight.
  • Your chid is probably shorter than you, put the camera down to the level of their head, do not take the photo looking down at them.
  • Stand back a bit, the wide angle lenses in most phones are not flattering when you put them too close.

Passport Standard But Not Quite

You will notice that these digital photos are zoomed out quite a lot more than the professional photos that you may have had taken in the past. If you try to use one of these professional you will have difficulty. You need a square format for the FA site. A traditional professional passport photo does not crop into a square format. The new requirement for electronic submission is a wider shot and that works.

The picture I used for the example above is below. Your photo needs to be able to be cropped into this square format so leave plenty of room around the head.

Attending Training At Sheen Lions

Team up to and including U11 train on Saturday mornings at Palewell. Until Easter older teams (U12 and up) train at Rosslyn Park. See our Find Us page for directions.

Sheen Lions F.C. is a Sunday League football club. Our aim is to train and prepare young players for Sunday league football.
In order to do that, players MUST attend training regularly.

For the exact time of training please look at the calendar on your team’s page on SheenLions.com. All teams in an age group train at the same time so Cubs and Trial players may look at any team in the age group. These calendars show all official training and will answer questions like when does training start, when is half term etc.

  • Shin pads must be worn and you must bring refreshments.
  • U6s and U7s” are required to bring their own goalkeeper gloves with them to all training sessions.
  • Please make sure that you arrive 5 minutes early for any training session so you are fully ready to start the session on time, be kitted up correctly and ready to train. If you are late you will probably have to stand and watch till the Coach can allow you to join and you may be excluded! Players that are persistently late risk being deregistered from the Club.
  • Members must only wear the official club training kit, this is purchased from our supplier, KS Teamwear, please see the Kit Shop page for a link and guidance on the kit that you must have. (The kit you get as part of your membership is only match socks and shorts, a match shirt is lent.)
    • All training garments to be initialled, except socks. This is done by KS Teamwear when you purchase.
    • Rugby attire including leggings, tights, skins, socks are not to be worn
    • Personal or other club merchandise and garments are not to be worn
    • Numbered match day shirts, white match day shorts and white/navy club named socks ARE NOT TO BE WORN
    • Of course you can train while you are waiting for Sheen kit to get to you and of course if you are trialling we do not expect you to turn out in Sheen Lions kit.
  • If parents leave during training (or matches) Parents must make sure that they are back before the end of the session to collect their child. Coaches and Managers have to leave and will be very inconvenienced if they have to wait for you so this is a big no no and even one occurrence will result in a review of your future with the Club.
  • Only Players that are registered with Sheen Lions as Members or to Trial may attend our training sessions. If you wish to try you should contact us at least three days before the training session, please see Trialling At Sheen Lions.

Food And Drink

  • NO sweets or fizzy drinks to be brought to training or matches, we are a sports club.
  • No sharing of drinks and foodstuff etc. as others may have allergies that are not known.
  • Regardless, do not bring any products containing nuts, we currently have a number of children in the club with severe allergies to nuts and other foods.

Dogs At Training

Dogs are welcome at our sessions however, we ask that all our members comply with our very reasonable request to keep their dogs under control and on leads in our designated areas whilst training is in progress.

If dogs encroach our designated areas, coaches will stop sessions until they are satisfied their session can continue without disruption from untethered dogs. No doubt that won’t be popular with other parents, nor the children.

Although Palewell Common is open to the public, it should be noted that our training areas are for the sole use of Sheen Lions FC on Saturday mornings from 9.00am – 12.30am. These areas are designated sports areas, given over to us by LBRUT as our official training ground, and are paid for by Sheen Lions F.C.

We ask the same on Sundays when our HOME matches are taking place.

As part of the club’s Code of Conduct your compliance will be greatly appreciated by everyone at the club.

Joining Sheen Lions – Summer 2021

Sheen Lions activity is now complete for 2020-21. The Club are not running any Summer activity including any Summer Camps.

If you wish to join Sheen Lions then you should apply to be invited for a trial. To be places on the waiting list to be invited for a trial please complete the short application form available here.

Sheen Lions training will resume in September with the first Saturday training for age groups up to U11 on 4th September. HOWEVER trial players will not be invited until later in September or early October once we have settled the current membership. We maintain a ratio of coaches to players and we have to control attendance.
