Update On Planned Activity In New Year

We hope you are all managing to enjoy the festive period despite everything this virus is throwing at you.

Following is a message from Sarah about the club’s intentions to resume after the holidays. Of course rules can and will change again and we do not know if they will get worse or better so there may be another update before this kicks in.

There is also a message from the SYL General Secretary which you can see here http://www.wsyl.org.uk/covid19-update-23-dec-2020/

Many of you will have noticed that the T4 rules continue to allow organised outdoor sports for U18. Unfortunately there is another rule that also applies, which is that players cannot travel out of or into a T4 area for this purpose, coaches can. This only impacts one unfortunate Sheen player attending training we believe but it ruins a continuation of League competition as teams are spread mainly over London and Surrey but two or three others as well. Maybe the League can work something out to get some games on but unless this changes it seems unlikely any current divisions can complete.

Club Secretary’s message

All, With no League fixtures for the foreseeable future, the club will still endeavour to train as originally planned. This of course is subject to further government restrictions and the highly likely possibility of a full lockdown in January and schools closing.

Here’s the plan:

  • Mid week training will start from Tuesday 5th January 2021.
  • Saturday training will start from Saturday 9th January 2021.

MID WEEK TRAINING.

Upon arrival at training (and matches) the manager/coach will take an attendance register.

  • This is to be done BEFORE any activity can take place.
  • The player and parent MUST check in on arrival.
  • The player must remain with the parent until the coach is ready to start the session.
  • If the player is unaccompanied they must check in and wait until the coach is ready to start training.

SATURDAY TRAINING.

Upon arrival at training (and matches) the manager/coach will take an attendance register.

  • Due to high numbers attending, the club has introduced a one child one parent policy at all training sessions and matches.
  • All children MUST be accompanied by an parent and remain with that parent until the coach is ready to start the session.
  • If the parent stays to spectate, they are to stay with their child’s group, socially distancing from others at all times.

GENERAL PROCEDURE FOR ALL TRAINING SESSIONS.

It is your responsibility to ensure your child has:

  • A NAMED WATER BOTTLE.
  • A NAMED  HAND SANITIZER BOTTLE.

Coaches and managers have been instructed that your child CANNOT PARTICIPATE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES if they do not have these.

If you do not have these and want to return home to fetch them, you will have to take your child with you. They cannot be left with the coach . If a child arrives without these with no parent present, they will be sent home.

A coach or manager cannot attend to a player should they be injured or taken ill unless it is life threatening. If you are uncomfortable with this you may want to be on site in case you are needed to attend to your child.

Once the session is over parents are to leave the area with their child as quickly as possible.

All the club’s rules and protocols MUST be followed. Anyone found not to do so will be asked to leave the training areas.

Latecomers will not be allowed to participate once the session has started and will be asked to leave the area. It is too disruptive to stop the session to take the register at that point.

The club expects all its members to abide and follow all its rules, protocols, guidelines and procedures. The club reserves the right to de-register a player/parent should they not adhere.

Merry Christmas From The Sheen Lions Coaches

Players & parents,

The coaches would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas & a happy & safe New Year.

Announcement by the League General Secretary

Saturday 19th December 17:30m

All, in light of the government announcement this afternoon the Surrey Youth League have postponed all fixtures for the 20th and 27th December with immediate effect. Please cascade this to all you mangers coaches etc

Games must not take place under any circumstances. There is no need to do a result card as the games will be removed from PS. We will make an announcement about the 3rd and 10th of January shortly.

U8 League Football Jan 2021

In the New Year, Sheen Lions F.C. aims to enter three U8s playing squads, Lions, Pride and Hoops, into the Surrey Youth League programme, playing Sunday League football. For this to happen, we needed volunteers to help run these squads. As it stands we have some parents who have shown interest but only from the Lions squad.

We need volunteers for Pride and Hoops if these children are to be given match play. If your child is in one of these squads, and you want to get involved, please come and find me this morning at training, 5th December. Without volunteers the children will not play Sunday league football.

Coaches have been working together to make those all important decisions regarding squad selection. It was important that your child attended training regularly should you want them to be considered for the match squads. The selection process is based on the player’s ability, attitude, and also their attendance record at training. Players not attending training regularly will not be considered.

Those players that are not offered a place in the playing squads will have a place in our Cubs squad. These players will be registered with the League so that should an opportunity arise to give them match play, they are eligible to play League fixtures. They would be expected to train regularly.

It should be understood that this is Sunday League development football, and as with all the age groups that play development football, U8s – U11s, players can freely move across from squad to squad. This is something the club encourages so that we can assess individual development. Players develop at very different rates so flexibility is all important. To be clear, and as an example, being registered as a Lion player does not necessarily mean that a player will play exclusively for that team. If the player is asked to play for another squad they would be expected to do so. It may be because we want to see them play at a different level or in a different position, or it may simply be availability issues and they are needed to help fulfil a fixture for that squad. We may move players for training purposes too. We trust parents to support this as refusal would be considered against the club’s ethos.

I should emphasise that Sheen Lions is a Sunday League football club. It is not recreational football. Our purpose is to train and prepare players for Sunday League football. Although match play is not guaranteed, players should be available on Sundays and if offered match play are expected to accept. Therefore players attending other activities on Sundays should not register with Sheen Lions or be prepared to forfeit any other activity if offered the chance to play. If a player is offered match play and is unavailable due to other commitments, it will be noted. If a player is unavailable too often then the club will deregister that player.

It is mandatory that the club’s training kit, football boots and shin pads are worn to training. The training kit can be purchased from our shop on our website. Any combination of the garments can be worn.

The club looks forward to running a very successful age group.

Surrey FA Safeguarding Poster Competition

Email from Surrey FA Safeguarding Officer follows below:

Dear Club Welfare Officer,

I hope you are all well and staying safe during this difficult time.

We are all aware that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, which is why the safety and security of all children and young people involved in the game of football in Surrey is one of our top priorities.

Sometimes it can be difficult for children and young people to fully understand what ‘safeguarding’ actually means and how it relates to them.  Overcoming these potential barriers is one of our key challenges and making sure we use their language is vital in promoting our message.

With this in mind, we have launched our Safeguarding Poster competition. The competition has been designed to give young players of all ages an opportunity to create safeguarding posters with messages and imagery which appeal to them and others around their age or needs.

1st prize – £25.00 Amazon gift card

2 additional prizes – £10.00 Amazon gift cards

The two week long competition will run until Tuesday 15th December with winners announced later that week.

To help players get started with their creations, we have created a helpful Surrey FA branded poster template

Entrants may find it helpful to take a look at the information, games and resources on our Kidzone webpage for inspiration!

Please send a scan or photo of the completed entries to Marketing@SurreyFA.com with the subject line of Safeguarding Poster Competition. Good luck!

Thank you once again for all the great work you all do within your clubs to make sure our young people enjoy their football in a safe and fun environment.

Additional Training For U11 In New Year 2021

Dear Parents,

Thank you to those of you that have agreed to take up the extra training we are putting on for the U11s.

Mid week training will benefit those players that are serious about progressing towards competitive football at U12s and through to the older age groups with Sheen Lions F.C. The training will be mixed groups rather than focused on current squads. This will give coaches, and managers, a further opportunity to see the talent and ability of players which will help identify those players they will select for their squads and the level players should play at going forward into U12s competitive football.

The surface is 4g under floodlights. You need special footwear for Rosslyn Park, please read: http://sheenlions.com/rosslyn-park-training-footwear/

December Return For Sheen Lions

So the good news is that we are in tier 2 and can return to football.

Here are the key points that MUST be followed at training and football matches. No exceptions will be made.

  • All players MUST have a named water bottle.
  • All players MUST have a named hand sanitizer.
  • All players MUST wear shin pads.
  • All players MUST wear football boots.
  • Only one parent to accompany one child to training.
  • Parents should arrive with their child kitted up 10 minutes before the session starts and report together to their coach/manager in order for the Attendance Register to be marked.
  • Children MUST show their coach/manager their water bottle and hand sanitizer and that they have shin pads and football boots on.
  • Late arrivals risk being turned away and not be allowed to participate.

Parents staying for the session are to gather in groups of no more than six but still stay socially distanced from one another.

Please note coaches/managers will not attend to the children should they fall ill or be injured. If you are uncomfortable with this you will need to remain in the vicinity where your child is training, in case you need to attend to them.
