Shirts Donated

Dear Parents
Well done to everyone who handed back your used match day shirt.

Today I donated 15 sets of shirts and countless goalkeeper shirts to Kitaid. The shirts will now find their way to young players in Africa, who will wear them with pride.

A big thank you on behalf of the club and the charity.

2019-20 Plans For U8

In the New Year we will enter three playing squads, Lions and Pride and Hoops, into the Surrey Youth League competition playing on a Sunday.

Our intention will be to to have similar standards of play from each squad. The selection process will be based on player’s ability, attitude, and also their attendance record at training. Players not attending training regularly will not be considered. “No train…no game” club policy comes into effect.

Those players that are not offered a place in the playing squads, will have a place in our Cubs squad. These players will be registered with the League so that should an opportunity arise to give them match play, they are eligible to play League fixtures. They will be expected to train regularly.

It should be understood that at this age it is Sunday League development football, and as with all the age groups that play development football, players can freely move across from squad to squad. This is something the club encourages so that we can assess individual development.

Players develop at very different rates so flexibility is all important. To be clear, and as an example, being registered as a Lion player does not necessarily mean that a player will play exclusively for that team. If the player is asked to play for another squad they would be expected to do so. It may be because we want to see them play at a different level or position, or it may simply be availability issues and they are needed to help fulfil a fixture for that squad. We may move players for training purposes too. We trust parents will support this as refusal would be considered to be against the club’s ethos.

Over the coming weeks managers and coaches will be working together to make those all important decisions regarding selection. It is important your child attends training regularly should you want them to be considered for the match squads.

For the remainder of the season the U8s will continue to train on Saturday 9.00 – 10.30am on Palewell Common. It is mandatory that Club training attire, football boots and shin pads are worn.

The club looks forward to running a very successful age group.

Sheen Lions U08 Parents’ Meeting

All U08 parents are asked to be at training on Saturday 12th October 9.00am.

The Club Secretary, Sara Street will address you all regarding the plan for the current U08s this season.

The intention is that the U08 age group will start playing in Surrey Youth League competitions after the Autumn half term providing we can help parents organise to support that.

Attending Training At Sheen Lions (2019)

Team up to and including U11 train on Saturday mornings at Palewell. Until Easter older teams (U12 and up) train at the Bank Of England Sports Centre. See our Find Us page for directions.

For the exact time of training please look at the calendar on your team’s page on SheenLions.com. All teams in an age group train at the same time so Cubs and Trial players may look at any team in the age group. These calendars show all official training and will answer questions like when does training start, when is half term etc.

  • Shin pads must be worn and you must bring refreshments.
  • Please make sure that you arrive 10 minutes early for any training session so you are fully ready to start the session on time. If you are late you will probably have to stand and watch till the Coach can allow you to join and you may be excluded!
  • If parents leave during training (or matches) Parents must make sure that they are back before the end of the session to collect their child. Coaches and Managers have to leave and will be very inconvenienced if they have to wait for you so this is a big no no and even one occurrence will result in a review of your future with the Club.
  • Only Players that are registered with Sheen Lions as Members or to Trial may attend our training sessions. If you wish to try you should contact us at least three days before the training session, please see Trialling At Sheen Lions.

As explained to you during the registration process you do have to buy the training kit. The kit you get as part of your membership is only match socks and shorts, a match shirt is lent.

There is of course no Sheen Lions shop (or any other premises). If you have asked KS Teamwear to deliver through the Club then they will send your stuff to Sarah, she in turn will pass it out to your Manager who will give it to you at training.Until you get your kit that you have ordered you will have to find something suitable to wear at training. Of course you can train while you are waiting for Sheen kit to get to you and of course if you are trialling we do not expect you to turn out in Sheen Lions kit.

Trialling At Sheen Lions

Players considering joining the Club may attend one or two training sessions to try without any fee. However before attending any Sheen Lions training session you must register your details with us.

Players wishing to try will be sent an email invite to register for a “Trial” squad. No payment is required and of course you will not need to wear the official Sheen Lions training kit at the sessions.

For the development age groups (U11 or younger) the trial is firstly on your part as the Club does not turn away players in these age groups and you will be able to join and continue after your trial if you wish. Your invite to join may however be for a Cubs Squad, please refer here to understand what this means. If you are joining during the season then the Cubs squad is the most likely outcome to start.

For the competitive age groups (U12 or older) Sheen Lions manager and coach will decide after the trial whether they are able to offer you a place to continue.

You should contact us at least three days before the session that you are hoping to attend so that there is sufficient time for you to Register and for us to process your application. Asking the day before is likely to lead to disappointment.

  • Development age groups (U11 and younger) train on Saturday mornings at Palewell, check the team page for your age group for the time of the session.
  • Competitive age groups (U12 and older) train on mid week evenings at Rosslyn Park (or at Palewell after Easter), check the team page for your age group for the day and time of the session. Note that Rosslyn Park is a 4G pitch and read the footwear guidance.

Boots For Africa – Well Done

Three Sacks

After a slow start, or maybe with people waiting for the end of SS6, Brian is pleased to report he has three sacks of boots on their way to start a new life as a result of our appeal.

Thank you to all that took the time to deliver boots. There is a collection every year so keep it in min. It is worth the effort to help some other young footballers and far better than adding to the landfill.

U09 Lions Finish 2018-19 Strongly Winning Byfleet

U09 Old Isleworthians

After finishing as runners up in the Ashford Town U9’s tournament, we entered two teams from the Lions squad into the annual Old Isleworthians FC tournament. Unfortunately for us, both teams were drawn against each other in the quarter final, with the winner of that game being knocked out by a golden goal in the semis.

U09 2018-19 Byfleet

On the 22/23 June weekend U09 entered the very competitive Byfleet FC tournament and finished our season strongly by lifting a trophy, beating local rivals, Barnes Eagles 4-0 in the final.

We look forward to carrying on this form next season, after a well deserved summer break!

Sheen Lions Cubs Squad 2019-20

For the 2021-22 season this notice is superseded by http://sheenlions.com/sheen-lions-cubs-squad/ and is no longer applicable.

We do not want to turn players away in the younger age groups, however demand is high and there is a limit to the number of teams we can support playing in the Surrey Youth League.

If a player cannot at the time be included in a match squad (Lions, Pride, Hoops or Rangers) then they will be offered the opportunity to register with Sheen Lions in our Cubs squad and so to continue their footballing experience with us.

Players in Cubs will be registered with the League. They will train with their age group and should an opportunity arise to offer League match play with one of the teams, they will be eligible to play. This would be subject to the team manager’s decision. Match play is NOT guaranteed for any player.

Cubs players are members or Sheen Lions and registered by us with the Surrey Youth League. They cannot train or play for any other Club.

Coaching Policy

We appoint fully qualified and DBS checked coaches to all our age groups.

The FA recommended ratio is 1 coach to 16 players. We aim to not exceed 1:15 in our younger age groups.

All our managers are all DBS checked and as a Charter Standard Club they have to hold valid FA recognised Safeguarding Children and Emergency Aid certificates.

The club encourages all our managers to achieve their Level 1 coaching status.
