Digital Photos For League Registration 2019-20

For the 2019-20 season the Surrey Youth League are asking clubs to summit a digital photos to register each of their players. This is good news, it will save parents expense, reduce the amount of admin time making registrations and we expect will result in a quicker, slicker process.

Age groups U07 and below are not registered with the League and so do not need to provide a photo.

A photo taken on a smart phone will be more than adequate HOWEVER the photo must meet some quality standards, these are the same quality standards as a Passport Photo so you can look at the Gouvernment guidance https://www.gov.uk/photos-for-passports.

Please also consider the following advice:

  1. Please frame your photo like the example “Digital” photos on the government site. You do not have to be as wide but you need the width of the shoulder either side of the head. This is revised from the original advice, Prawn requires the photos square cropped so we need space either side of the head. Prawn Advice.
    • If your phone has the option to take a square photo please use it!
  2. Make sure that you are facing square on to the camera with a plain expression, no smile.
  3. Take it against a PLAIN background. If you are stuck for this then there is a nice plain wall either side of the Palewell cafe that will suite a child of any hight. Use the side that in in the shade to avoid squinting and shadows.
  4. You are not going to play in glasses unless you have special ones so do not wear glasses for the photo.
  5. Make sure that you send in the original image. Some phones have a default behaviour to downsize a picture when you send it, you need to find the setting and stop this.
  6. Do not send photos of photos or at least, if you do I must not be able to tell it is a photo of a photo.

You will send your picture by email as requested on your Sheen Lions registration confirmation email that you will receive after you have entered your Club registration.

2019-20 Season Plans For U13

The current U12s will move up to U13s and will now play 11 a side football. The plan is to run two playing squads with good numbers, Lions and Pride.

Our aim will be to lessen the gap in the standard of play between the squads. Therefore the selection process will be based on player’s ability and attitude, and also their attendance record at training. Players not attending training regularly will not be considered, Punctuality will also be used as a measure.. “No train…no game” club policy comes into effect.

If there’s enough demand, those players that are not offered a place in the playing squads, will be offered a place in our Cubs squad. They would be expected to train regularlyand should an opportunity arise to offer them match play, we would then register them with the League making them eligible for selection.

It should be understood that at this age it is Sunday League competative football, players will no longer be able to move freely across from squad to squad.

However, players can officially transfer across and if a player is asked to transfer and play for the other squad they would be expected to do so. It may be because we want to see them play at a different level or position. We may move players for training purposes too. We trust parents will support this as refusal would be considered to be against the club’s ethos.

Over the coming weeks managers and coaches will be working together to make those all important decisions regarding selection. It is important your child attends training regularly should you want them to be considered. Should you reject the offer made, you would then of course be at liberty to look for football for you child elsewhere.

Next season the U13s will train on Friday 7.00 – 8.30pm on The Bank of England all weather pitch. There is parking available. It is mandatory that Club training attire, football boots and shin pads are worn.

The club looks forward to running a very successful age group.

2019-20 Season Plans For U12

The current U11s will move up to U12s and will continue to play 9 a side football. However, it will now be competative football. The plan is to run two playing squads with good numbers, Lions and Pride.

Our aim will be to lessen the gap in the standard of play between the squads. Therefore the selection process will be based on player’s ability and attitude, and also their attendance record at training. 2019-20 Season Plans For U11

The current U10s will move up to U11s and will now play 9 a side development football. The plan is to run three playing squads, Lions, Pride and Hoops.

Our aim will be to lessen the gap in the standard of play between the squads. Therefore the selection process will be based on player’s ability and attitude, and also their attendance record at training, albeit with Sheen Lions or an outside professional club. Players not attending training regularly will not be considered. “No train…no game” club policy comes into effect.

If there’s enough demand, those players that are not offered a place in the playing squads, will be offered a place in our Cubs squad. However, these players would be registered with the League so that should an opportunity arise to give them match play, they are eligible to play League fixtures. They would be expected to train regularly. Should volunteer parents offer to run this squad as a playing squad, the club would consider this once the season is underway.

It should be understood that at this age it is Sunday League development football, and as with all the age groups that play development football, players can freely move across from squad to squad. This is something the club encourages so that we can assess individual development.

Players develop at very different rates so flexibility is all important. To be clear, and as an example, being registered as a Lion player does not necessarily mean that a player will play exclusively for that team. If the player is asked to play for another squad they would be expected to do so. It may be because we want to see them play at a different level or position, or it may simply be availability issues and they are needed to help fulfil a fixture for that squad. We may move players for training purposes too. We trust parents will support this as refusal would be considered to be against the club’s ethos.

It is important your child attends training regularly should you want them to be considered. Should you reject the offer made, you would then of course be at liberty to look for football for you child elsewhere.

Next season the U11s will train on Saturday 10.45 – 12.15pm on Palewell Common. It is mandatory that Club training attire, football boots and shin pads are worn.

The club looks forward to running a very successful age group.

2019-20 Season Plans For U10

The current U9s will move up to U10s and will continue to play 7 a side development football. The plan is to run four playing squads, Lions, Pride, Hoops and Rangers.

2019-20 Season Plans For U9

The current U8s will move up to U9s and will now play 7 a side development football. The plan is to run two playing squads, Lions and Pride.

Update – October 2019: A third U9 match squad U9 Hoops will start playing in the Surrey Youth League after the Autumn half term. Al current (15th Oct) Cubs players have been reallocated to Hoops.

Our aim will be to lessen the gap in the standard of play between the squads. U11 Pride Win The Ronaldo Cup

On a very cold and windy day at the lovely Leatherhead Youths ground, the Under 11 Pride were preparing to take part in their second final in two years. A quite remarkable achievement for a very talented group of boys that have built up the most amazing team spirit. The final was against a very talented Walton & Hersham Youth side from the division above. We knew this was going to be a very big ask. The match was played on 4G and with Bruno and Michael supporting Mel and Chris, the boys were well prepared. Leatherhead hosted the day superbly and the League ensured all the boys felt like superstars as they walked out of the changing rooms onto the pitch listening to the applause from a large crowd of spectators.

Both teams played some exceptional football but the power of some of Waltons players began to take effect and they dominated the early exchanges. Will held his defence together and Andy put in some big challenges. Most importantly Davide seemed to have glue on his gloves. Everything stuck. Walton were not to be denied and a powerful free kick from the edge of the box flew into the roof of the net. Mel turned to Bruno and said “We need to stay in this game”. The boys dug deep and needed a spark. As the Walton forward skipped into the area and was about to shoot, George A flew into a tackle. This seemed to lift the boys and the last ten minutes of the half were all Pride. George S fired wide before Jakob set him up and he made no mistake, firing a rocket into the top corner. The boys came within inches of making it two as Elliott pressed to create a chance for Charlie but it crept wide.

Bruno’s team talk was spot on. “Be strong, be quick and take your chances. We can win this game!” The boys believed him and believed in each other. Walton flew out of the traps. A low ball from the right somehow evaded everyone. Close, so close. More pressure down the left but Joe was not going to be beaten. Not today! Jakob came within inches of getting the ball as the keeper and defender hesitated. Not to be denied, he used his strength to win a George S cross and hit a powerful left foot volley past the keeper. Amazing but 20 minutes still to go!

Walton moved up a gear. Their tall right sided player started running and shooting. Davide was flying through the area stopping everything. The defence worked as a unit. The midfield battled. Tackles were strong. The crowd were ageing. This was tense. Too tense. One minute left. A high ball towards the box. The ball came out, Harry A thumped it out to the left and the sweetest sound of the day was the final whistle. The boys had done it. Once again they had performed as a team, a unit, to defeat a team from the league above. Walton were superb. The best team we have played this season. They did not deserve to lose but the Pride did deserve to win. Sheen Lions are very proud of all of you. Well done boys!

Mel
