Boots For Africa – Thank You

Thanks to all of you that took the time to sort out and deliver your boots to Maia. She has collected 130 pairs of boots and these are on their way to a second life where they will be much appreciated.

They have already been sent out to Lesotho and are about to be put to very good use!

Make sure to keep hold of any more boots you may have for our 2013 boot collection!

Lions In Zambia And South Africa

Back in June 2011 Sheen Lions donated 150 shirts to support  GrassRoot Soccer, a charity dedicated to stopping the spread of HIV. They uses the popularity of Soccer to get serious and important messages about HIV to hard to reach young people in Africa. Jon Darlison arranged for DHL to ship these free of charge to Cape Town.

This Summer Sheen Lions was able to donate more shirts and again Jon was able to ask DHL to ship these out for free, this time directly to Zambia.

Peter Glidden of GrassRoot Soccer has just returned from working with the kids in Africa and has sent us some photos.

Peter says

I did want to share with a few photos of the kits in action. I think Tori informed you that some of the photos were used in a VCT Tournament last month and most recently that have been utilized with our GRS Coaches team these past couple weeks. Needless to say, they are getting lots of good use and our coaches and kids love having a nice kit to show off their skills.

On behalf of all of us at GRS, we very much appreciate your generosity, patience and support in helping GRS Zambia make strides in the fight against HIV. Supporters like you inspire our coaches/staff to continue the incredible efforts that are educating and mobilizing youth and communities throughout Africa. share with a few photos of the kits in action.  Needless to say, they are getting lots of good use and our coaches and kids love having a nice kit to show off their skills. We really appreciate it!

Big Changes For Red and Yellow Cards

For 2012-13 The FA are introducing Match Based Discipline to Youth football. This means that if you receive for example a red card during a game you will receive a one, two, three or more match ban depending on the offence. It is the same punishments that you are familiar with from the Premier League.

Normally the ban will automatically apply 21 days after the offence though serious incidents can result in an immediate ban.

It is the responsibility of the offending player’s club to comply with the ban whether they receive paperwork or not. This is significantly different from the old regime where a ban was only applied if and when paperwork was received. A Club is deemed to have player an illegible player whether they have received paperwork or not.

Please note that this disciplinary process applies across Youth football and this includes school matches. Surrey FA have now stated that disciplinary  process for school and club football is not connected. A Suspension in one does not affect the other.

New Look For SheenLions.com

Since its launch in 2008 SheenLions.com has be hosted on by 1&1 and is built using 1&1 proprietary WebsiteBuilder tool. We have had four good years but it was time to move. We have re-built SheenLions.com with WordPress and it is now hosted by TSO Hosts.

We are still SheenLions.com and you still have access to the same information but the page appearance is slightly different. In particular you will see a new menu structure and we hope this will make it easier to locate information that you need. There is a dedicated menu for fast access to the team pages.

Google is by far the main search engine that people use to route to SheenLions.com. It may take Google a little while to learn about the new site and rank it well, however its links to the old site will continue to land on the appropriate new pages.

As always, if you have any problems with or comments about SheenLions.com contact the webmasters, webmaster@sheenlions.org

Boots For Africa Charity Appeal

Once again Sheen Lions FC is to contribute to the following charity.

Maia Dickson ( U14s) has very kindly said she will help me coordinate collection and delivery.
The timing is good as it is the end of the season, tournaments have been played and old boots will be replaced for new ready for the forthcoming season.

The aim is that every registered Sheen Lions boy donates a minimum of one pair of boots.
Of course you can donate more.
I’m sure if you ask family and friends they will have old boots lying around in porches, under the stairs, and in garages too.

Collect what you can, give them a clean and take them to:

Maia Dickson

We’ll do the rest.
