Sheen Lions are an FA Charter Standard boys football club in the Sheen, Richmond, Kew, Roehampton area of South-West London. We are affiliated to the Surrey County FA and we provide coaching and organised match programmes for more than 300 boys from the age of 6 to 18 years. Our teams play competitive football in the Surrey Youth League, recently awarded Gold Status by the FA and National Winner of the Respect & Fair Play Awards for Youth Leagues presented at the 2013 FA Cup Final.

Most recently we have entered into a partnership agreement with Queens Park Rangers providing further benefits to Sheen Lions players, coaches and parents. This initiative is one of several marking the Club’s 25-year anniversary in 2011.For the 2013-14 season Sheen Lions will have twenty two boys football teams representing the Club at all levels in the Surrey Youth League. The demand for organised youth football continues to grow in our local area and as one of the largest clubs playing in the Surrey Youth League Sheen Lions will continue to develop to meet this demand.
As part of our long term plan we became a Registered Charity in May 2008. In December 2009 we were awarded Charter Standard Club status by The FA. By taking these steps we will have more resources available to offer the best possible youth football experience in our local community whilst making sure we are fully in tune with The FA’s youth football requirements.

Sheen Lions U18 Win Premier Division

Congratulations to Sheen Lions U18. With an emphatic win on Wednesday 1st May they secured top spot to win the U18 Premier Division of the Surrey Youth League. Another big win on Sunday 5th May in their last game of the season gives them a five point winning margin.

A great finish for their Manager John O’Brien and many of the squad in their last season with Sheen Lions after so many years.

Here are some thoughts from

John O’Brien, Sheen Lions U18’s Manager

Sheen Lions U18’s are Premier League Champions 2012 -2013. We won 16 of our 18 games. Losing only twice. We won by 5 clear points. We have the best defence in the league conceding only 20 goals and scoring more than any other team 69.

I started this team 12 years ago when the boys were 6 years of age. They are now 18 year old young men. Remarkably we have 4 players from the original team, Charlie O’Brien, Matt Hopwood, Mark Brown & Declan Ryan. Charlie,  Matt & Mark have 12 seasons of uninterrupted service. It is a fairy tale ending to finish as league champions in our final season together.

I must thank Sarah Street for her support, advice and mentoring over the past 12 years. She has made Sheen Lions into a beacon of excellence.

Sarah Street, Sheen Lions Club Secretary

I cannot express how proud I am this team. They have been patient, worked hard and given full commitment and dedication to each other and their manager John O’Brien and now they have achieved the very best.

They are deserved winners of the U18s Premier Division. This is truly a testament to them and the Club. It’s about the journey and not instant success. Boys have come and gone over the years but many have been with the team through good times and bad, some of them for as long as 12 years. They are an inspiration.

I hope that they will take good memories with them of their time with Sheen Lions.

Geoff Parmiter, Sheen Lions Chairman and Director of Football

Winning the West Surrey Youth League in their final season – what a truly fantastic achievement.

I am delighted for John O’Brien , the Under 18 squad and all the parents that have supported this side since it commenced nearly 12 years ago. It is a fitting climax to an extraordinary adventure that will live with the boys for many years. Winning Football titles is important but what is more important is the shared experience and mutual friendships that the boys will enjoy as they progress into the next stages of their lives.

WELL DONE to ALL , you ALL really deserve the success you have achieved for yourselves and the club.

My name is Elaine and I work with the Sports Development Team in Richmond. London Youth Games is the largest annual youth sporting event in Europe. The 33 London boroughs compete against each other in over 30 different sports of which Football is one of them. Most of you will have received an email from me previously regarding London Youth Games and you all should have received a poster in the post regarding the upcoming Football trials.

Team Richmond struggle every year to find a boys and girls football team and this year is no different. The Team Richmond trials will be held tomorrow evening Wednesday 1 May from 6.30pm – 7.30.pm at Lincoln Field, which is located across the bridge from Twickenham Academy, Percy Road, Whitton, TW2 6JW.

To be eligible to trial young people must live or go to school in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames and be born between 01/09/98 and 31/08/00 (School Year 8 and 9).

Could you please pass this information onto the boys and girls in your club who would be eligible to trial?

If tomorrow is too late notice to attend, they are more than welcome to attend the following Wednesday 8 May from 6.00pm – 7.00pm. Training will be held weekly until the competition at Crystal Palace on Saturday 6 July (boys) and Sunday 7 July (girls)

If your club members are interested, if they could complete the online application form available from www.richmond.gov.uk/londonyouthgames that would be great, application forms will be available at the trial and training sessions also.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me

Kind regards,

Elaine

Joining Sheen Lions For The 2013-14 Season

Sheen Lions are an FA Charter Standard youth football club in the Sheen, Richmond, Kew, Roehampton area of South-West London. We are affiliated to the Surrey County FA and we provide coaching and organised match programmes for around 300 children from the ages of 6 to 18 years.

For the 2013-14 season we expect to run twenty one boys football teams representing the Club at all levels in the Surrey Youth League. The Sheen Lions Club is run by volunteers enthusiastic about youth football and all our teams have qualified coaches some up to UEFA level 3. Last season we were nominated by the Surrey Youth League for a National Respect and Fairplay award and were very pleased to win the win the Toshiba Rose Bowl as the club with the best sportsmanship marks in the Surrey Youth League.

On Sunday mornings during the season our home at Palewell Park is a fantastic sight with three mini pitches, one 9v9 and three 11-a-side pitches all available to host league games under the control of qualified referees. Our excellent organisation and great coaches have made us one of the largest clubs playing in the Surrey Youth League.

Demand to play football at Sheen Lions always exceeds capacity but, as we finish one season we begin to prepare for the next.

  • We are very keen to bring players who want to learn to play competitive football into our our younger age groups
  • Our older age groups are always prepared to meet good players who could enhance the team. Most of our older teams train through the Summer term and play competitively in summer five or six a-side tournaments and this gives us a good  opportunity to introduce new players.

We would encourage boys who are interested to contact us sooner rather than later. Squads for next season are largely decided by the end of June.

Check your birthday against the list below to contact the appropriate manager for your age group and arrange to come along to one of our training sessions.
