Sheen Lions U12 Win Their Division

The group started off the season having brought in the Pride to the Lions to form one large squad; this meant every boy had to play his part on and off the pitch which they did impeccably.

The boys fought hard all season in what was an very evenly matched and competitive division keeping up with the pack at the top all the way to the wire. In the last four matches we beat the top of the table team twice and drew with Barnes Eagles Colts to take it to the last match of the season where we won 3-0 to take over and win the division.

Sheen Lions U14 Pride Win Their Division

On Sunday 20th May Sheen Lions Pride U14 were awarded the SYL Division 3 Shield and medals for each of the players.

The team is made up of 17 players; half of whom are long term Sheen Lions boys and half who joined at the beginning of the season. Gareth their coach has done a great job over the course of the season is shaping a strong squad that delivered some impressive stats; the boys scored 71 league goals, only two lost league matches across the entire season, conceded only 24 goals and won the league with a 7 point lead. And thanks to Sheen Lions for donating money for goals they raised £50 for Children in Need.

Development Football Plans For 2018-19

Parents

With the season officially now at a close our attention turns to next season.

U6 -> U7

The current U6s will move up to U7s and will spend the season training and learning the game. Round Robin events will be organised for them.

U7 -> U8

The club plans on running three playing squads. These will be children that we think are ready for match play. They will start match play with the League after the October half term and can play for any U8s team. Further players can join and train with us, and will be officially registered, allowing eligibility to play League football, subject to selection, as and when the opportunity arises.
In order to run the 3 planned squads we need volunteers to be managers. Ideally two people running a team works, so we’ll be looking for at least 6 volunteers. If more volunteers come forward we will run more than 3 squads. If you think you can run a team please contact Sarah.

U8 -> U9

Teams move up to play 7 v 7 at U9. The club will run three playing squads and players can play for any U9 team.
Further players can join and train with us, and will be officially registered, allowing eligibility to play League football as and when the opportunity arises.

U9  -> U10

Teams continue to play 7 v 7. The club will run four playing squads and players can play for any team.
Further players can join and train with us, and will be officially registered, allowing eligibility to play League football as and when the opportunity arises.

U10 -> U11

Teams move up to play 9 v 9. Existing U10’s teams will merge to give us two or three squads depending on numbers.
Next season will be their last playing non-competitive football, so children will still be able to move across from one team to the other as they develop and progress in readiness for U12’s when the football then becomes competitive.
Further players can join and train with us, and will be officially registered, allowing eligibility to play League football as and when the opportunity arises.

Selecting The Squads

Managers and coaches have continuously observed and assessed players through match play and training and decisions will be made regarding squads for next season over the coming weeks. That’s not to say squads are set in stone. Players will continue to approach the club and we will continue to give every child the opportunity to trial for a place.
Children attending other activities on Sundays should not sign up with Sheen Lions. The club expects players to be readily available to play on Sundays if selected. If a player is repeatedly unavailable, the club will de-register the player.
Managers will use the Summer Soccer Six as an opportunity to assess players. History tells us that new children will sign up for it, in the hope of gaining a place at Sheen Lions, so as always competition is high for a squad place. If possible existing players should sign up for the Summer Soccer Six if they intend to continue with the club.
If your child has friends wanting to join in, pass on the details of how to sign up.
It is important to remember that from U8s – U11s the League programme is non – competitive and allows clubs to move children from one squad to the another freely. So, one week a child may play for Pride, the next Hoops, the next Lions etc. This freedom of movement means children are not anchored into one team where they may struggle or alternatively may be not playing to their full potential. What matters is that they are Sheen Lions players, within their age group, and can develop at their own pace. This is development football and our aim is find the right level for individual players.
If you have questions feel free to approach Mel Atkins (Head of Mini Soccer ) or your current manager or myself, at training.
Here’s to a roaring 2018-19 season.
C’mon you Lions!!!

Sheen Lions Registering For 2018-19

The season is almost finished and the next season does not kick of until 9th September but we are now entering a period of intense work to get the teams set up for next season. It seems strange but this all has to happen in June and early July and it is a huge amount of work for Sarah and the Managers and Coaches. You can help by doing what you are asked to do as early as you can and certainly by the date asked. Note that Sarah has to work towards the various deadline dates set by the League to establish teams for next season. We might be sympathetic to any reason you have for being late but it makes no difference, if the train has left without you then you missed it and we have to work out a way to fix the mess and that is extra work that is not needed and will probably mean that you will not be registered in time to start the season. Remember that this Club is run by unpaid volunteers so please do your bit by doing things on time.

For U5 to U11, invites to register for Summer Soccer Six have been sent, see the Soccer Six post for details. Even if you cannot do the sessions you will need to respond to indicate that you wish to continue next season. If you do not respond you will no longer be a Member and we will have to remove your data. Note the SS6 uses the 2017-18 age groups, but of course registration for next season will use the 2018-19 age groups. It can be confusing.

Current U12 to U18 players need to let their Manager know if they are continuing to next season now. I am expecting lists form Managers soon to begin registration for next Season. When you get your invite to register PLEASE deal with this quickly so that we spread the administration load and do not waste our time chasing people.

If you are thinking of joining Sheen Lions for next season:

  1. If you will be an U12 or older in 2018-19 you should urgently contact one of the managers for the age group and ask for an opportunity to trial. Contact details are on the team pages of this site, but note that these are using the 2017-18 age groups until August.
  2. If you are an U11 in 2017-18  or younger then you should sign up for our Soccer Six, after June 23rd however you will have to wait and contact us at the start of September.

Sheen Lions U10 Pride Win The SYL Euro Cup

SHEEN LIONS PRIDE UNDER 10’s 2 v 1 MAYFORD ATHLETIC TIGERS U10

Four weeks ago the final was postponed due to heavy snow. Today it was 26 degrees and too hot. Regardless,  the boys from Sheen Lions were ready for action and ready to take on Mayford TIgers in the final of the Under 10 Surrey Youth League Euro Cup. With Head Coach Michael running the warm up there were no excuses and we were ready. Having beaten two teams from the league above we had to do it again to win the trophy.
Playing on a 3G surface, both teams played some wonderful passing football but it was Mayford that had the early control and twice the outstanding Davide in goal made brilliant blocks to keep the score level. The Pride had their chances with George S forcing a great save from their keeper. Both defences were strong with few real sights of goal until Brandon blocked a clearance and Massimo span and fired past their keeper. 1-0 at the break.
It was Michaels 1-0 game. Don’t concede and you win. The boys knew he was right but there were 25 big minutes to play. Mayford made changes and put their best player up front. Will and Harry J had their hands full but it was a big ask. As the heat took its toll the game opened up. Harry A started to run with the ball and stretch their defence. One great run and pass saw Brandons shot blocked. Brandon then leapt 5’ in the air to head over from a corner. So close.
Mayford were playing more direct and it was no surprise when their forward found space and fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner. How would the boys react? They were against the ropes as Mayford pressed for the winner. A low cross caused havoc in the Pride defence but Davide smothered the shot. The Pride broke and Massimo knocked the ball forward for George S. It seemed to take forever for the ball to drop but that trusty right foot did the rest and buried the ball in the back of the net. The boys went mad but there were still 5 minutes to go.
Mayford threw bodies up front. Munir was running on empty but dropped deeper to defend for the team. Charlie fired in from distance then Massimo broke clear on goal but fired wide. One minute to go. The ball was on the edge of the Pride box, their player shot but Munir blocked. The ball broke for their player to shoot and George A threw himself in the way. Heroic stuff. The ball was cleared and the Ref finally blew. The Pride had won. A massive team effort and the boys rightly celebrated their victory.

U9s 6-a-side Festival at QPR’s Academy

U09 2017-8 6-a-side Festival at QPR’s Academy

We played in an U9s 6-a-side Festival at QPR’s Academy this morning. The standard was very high but the boys acquitted themselves very well and won one game and lost two.

Chris received a medal for playing well, Louis scored two good goals and the rest of the boys worked their socks off!

Another very good experience which will only assist in their development.

U09 Lions Play At Chelsea

The U9 Lions were invited to play against a Chelsea Development side on Friday night (23rd March). Our best performance of the season saw us win 5-1 with the goals shared out between the team. Everyone played brilliantly and were a credit to the club.

U6 and U7 Brave The Elements

The U6’s & U7’s braved the elements and played against Corpus Christi on Saturday 17th March.

Dispite the snow and snowflakes all the boy’s from both clubs were up for it and put on a great performance.

Coach Michael said
It’s important that they play in these conditions because it builds character“.
