U9 Prides at Carshalton FC Tournament June 4th

The boys were quite brilliant in what proved to be a tough tournament on a big pitch down at Carshalton FC’s ground.

They lost one nil in the semi final to Haliford Colts.

“A real shame but the boys left with their heads held high and put on great performances against other club’s first teams in divisions higher than them”.

Manager for the day

U9 Lions Runners Up at NPL

U9 Lions – Runners Up at NPL 2017

The U9 lions played in the NPL tournament yesterday June 3rd. They played 8 matches and conceded 1 goal, which unfortunately was in the final vs Sutton Utd.

So far they have played in two tournaments, playing 13 matches and have conceded 1 goal, what a record, the boys should rightly be proud of themselves & of their runners up medals.

I would also like to thank the boys from our Pride team and Rangers team (Adam, George S. & Theo VG) for the part they played and they all managed to get on the score sheet!

“This just goes to show what strength in depth we have at U9’s and again proves what a great job our coaches are doing”.

Richard.

Open Days For The Surrey FA Referee Education Academy

Surrey FA, in association with SCL, are launching a Referee Education Academy for 16-18 year olds. The course, a first of its kind for the Surrey FA, will take place at the new Surrey FA HQ Meadowbank, based in Dorking.

The course is a 2-year, full-time education and referee development programme, which includes professional coaching 4 days a week, nationally-recognised qualifications in sport and the opportunity to referee in the Fulham and Chelsea Academies.

The Surrey FA will be running two open days ahead of the course starting in September; one on the 26th May, and one on the 5th June. These open days are a fantastic opportunity to gain further insight into the way the course works, the benefits the student gets, and a chance to meet some of the key people involved.

For full details and to book the open day go to the Surrey FA website here.

Development Football Plans For 2017-18

This is a message from the Club Secretary, Sarah Street to all U6, U7, U8, U9 and U10 players for the 2017-18 season. If you are new to or considering playing Sheen Lions you may also want to read our How To Join page.

Parents

With the season officially now at a close our attention turns to next season.

U6 -> U7

The current U6s will move up to U7s and will spend the season trying and learning the game. Round Robin events will be organised for them.

U7 -> U8

The club plans on running three playing squads. These will be children that we think are ready for match play. They will start match play with the League after the October half term and can play for any U8s team. Further players can join and train with us, and will be officially registered, allowing eligibility to play League football as and when the opportunity arises.
In order to run the 3 planned squads we need volunteers to be managers. Ideally 2 Dads running a team works so we’ll be looking for at least 6 volunteers. If more volunteers come forward we will run more than 3 squads. If you think you can run a team please contact Sarah.

U8 -> U9

Teams move up to play 7 v 7 at U9. The club will run three playing squads and players can play for any U9 team.
Further players can join and train with us, and will be officially registered, allowing eligibility to play League football as and when the opportunity arises.

U9  -> U10

Teams continue to play 7 v 7. The club will run 4 playing squads and players can play for any team.
Further players can join and train with us, and will be officially registered, allowing eligibility to play League football as and when the opportunity arises.

U10 -> U11

Teams move up to play 9 v 9. Existing U10s teams will merge to give us THREE strong squads. Next season will be their last playing non-competitive football, so boys will still be able to move across from one team to the other as they develop and progress in readiness for U12s when the football then becomes competitive.
Further players can join and train with us, and will be officially registered, allowing eligibility to play League football as and when the opportunity arises.

Selecting The Squads

Managers and coaches have continuously observed and assessed players through match play and training and decisions will be made regarding squads for next season over the coming weeks. That’s not to say squads are set in stone. Players will continue to approach the club and we will continue to give every boy the opportunity to trial for a place.
Managers will use the Summer Soccer Six as an opportunity to assess players. History tells us that new boys will sign up for it, in the hope of gaining a place at Sheen Lions, so as always competition is high for a squad place. You may want to sign your son up if you intend to continue with the club.
Booking Instructions will be sent out to you at the start of May. If your son has friends wanting to join in, pass on the details of how to sign up.
Please remember that from U8s – U11s the League programme is non – competitive  and allows clubs to move boys from one squad to the another freely. So, one week a boy may play for Pride, the next Hoops, the next Lions etc. This freedom of movement means boys are not anchored into one team where they may struggle or alternatively may be not playing to their full potential. What matters is that they are Sheen Lions players, within their age group, and can develop at their own pace. This is development football and our aim is find the right level for individual players.
If you have questions feel free to approach Mel Atkins (Head of Mini Soccer ) or your current manager or myself, at training.
Here’s to a roaring 2017-18 season.
C’mon you Lions!!!

Referee and FA Level 1 Coaching

As always Sheen Lions looks to helping it’s registered players add to their qualifications albeit doing a Referees Course or a Level 1 Coaching Course.
Particularly useful for those considering some sort of sports degree in the future.
If your son is keen to do this please check out the courses on the Surrey FA’s web site.
Those boys that gain a qualification can then referee and/or coach with the club to get experience.
We pay our referees and coaches so useful spending money gained too.
Any registered from U14 upwards will be considered.
Once the course is completed in full and passed, the club would reimburse the cost.

Just to add for potential referees:

  1. Sarah will arrange games for you so you can referee and play your home fixture, you can ref and still play.
  2. The SYL is leading with their Respect campaign to stop any disrespect towards referees at their matches. So far this season no Sheen Lions appointed referee has reported any Respect issues.

End Of Season – Bag Up Your Boots

Once again, Sheen Lions intends to collect in old /used football boots to donate to charity.
Please hunt through bedrooms, garages, sheds etc and bag up your old boots.
All sizes welcome. PLEASE ENSURE THEY ARE CLEAN.
We will be collecting them in around September/October. Details of where to take them to follow nearer the time.
Thank you
Sarah

End Of Season – Return Your Match Shirt

With the season fast coming to an end,this is a reminder that you MUST please return your son’s match day shirt to your manager at the end of your final game.
If you are playing in tournaments the manager will hand out shirts on the day and collect them back in straight after.

Managers will be given new shirts for their squads next season however, in order for this to happen the existing ones are to be returned. The managers keep an inventory of boys and their shirt numbers so it will be easy for them to keep track of what hasn’t been returned.

Thank you for your co-operation

regards
Sarah

After a couple of seasons Sheen Lions donates its match shirts to charity and they will go on to a second life where they are much appreciated. Lions in Africa
