Age Groups

Age Group Specific Guidance

U06

We will take new members until around mid February. After that you will be placed on the list to be invited to our Summer Soccer Six in June and July. Fees are reduced after Christmas but we are a football club and we do not pro-rata fees, you may decide that your best option now is to wait for Summer Soccer Six anyway.

U07 and U08

We are only able to accommodate new members into a second session on Saturday morning starting at 10:45. The majority of these age groups train starting at 09:00. There is no option to trial in these age groups, you have to join to attend.

U09 and U10

You can trial but even so it is most unlikely that you will obtain a place in our match squads now and you will only be able to join as a Cub (training only).

U11 and Older

You must complete the short application form available here. The experience section is most important as the age group managers will use that to decide if they wish to trial you now, in the Summer for next season or regrettably not at all.

U6, U7 and U8 Age Groups – January 2022

Message From Club Secretary

Firstly, thank you all for your patience. I know that being on a waiting list can be very frustrating. The demand for Sheen Lions increases every year but this season it has taken us by surprise how many children want to join. As you would expect we are very mindful of how big the groups are and need to ensure that ratios of children and coaches are right so we can deliver the very best experience for the players.

I am pleased to say that we are now in a position where we can offer a training session for U7s & U8s on the waiting list, but only if there is enough demand to make it viable. If the numbers are good enough we will have separate age groups. If there are only enough players for one group we will combine the U7s and U8s as one group. If the uptake is very low then we will not be able to offer the session at all.

Some of you may indeed have found a place elsewhere, and are happy with your choice and that’s perfectly understandable. However, if you would be kind enough to let us know, one way or the other, whether this is something you would sign up to  so we can then gauge to see if we are in a position to go ahead, we’d be very grateful.

Those of you already on the waiting list have been sent an email invitation to register for our Cubs squad. Please respond on that email as soon as possible but by Monday 27th December at the very latest.

The sessions will start from Saturday 8th January 2022 on Palewell Common at 10.45am – 12.15pm. This is NOT the same time as the existing sessions for these age groups. The first session will be a trial to give you the opportunity to make the decision to continue or not. You will have to complete your membership by paying before you attend any later sessions.

Planned training dates are shown in the calendar on the team pages, note that the Cubs sessions starting at 10:45 are the ones you are looking for. You may attend the Special Goal Keeper sessions also shown if you wish.

kind regards

Merry Christmas From The Sheen Lions Coaches

No Matches Sunday 19th December 2021

The SYL have remove fixtures for the last Sunday before Christmas. Please see the following message from Frank Thompson – General Secretary Surrey Youth League.

After consultation and contact from clubs and parents the league have taken the difficult decision to remove the playing programme for Sunday 19th December 2021. In essence this means that no competitive games will take place on that day. We have also consulted the Surrey Primary League who have reached the same conclusion.

We appreciate that not everyone will be in favour of this and that there is an argument on both sides of this decision that could be made.

However as an organisation we feel that we should lean on the side of caution as so much is yet unknown about the current variant and the figures are very high and rising at an alarming rate. We don’t want anyone to feel they have to play this weekend by perception or otherwise.

This one Sunday off will afford everyone the time to properly assess the situation and remove any risk factor attached to families, clubs, coaches etc. having to make the difficult decision themselves. It also affords us all time to see just how this variant unfolds so we can make plans for when we return on the 9th January.

We hope that people will fully understand the rationale behind this. No one wants to stop the kids’ fun, those who want to still arrange in club games or friendlies are completely your choice.

Everyone at the league genuinely just wants all connected to it to remain safe and enjoy Christmas. We look forward to starting again in January.

Regards, Frank Thompson – General Secretary Surrey Youth League

Children In Need 2021

Last weekend Sheen Lions F.C. encouraged all it’s players to help raise money for this worthy charity, together with FareShare. I am delighted to report that with the children’s tremendous efforts £450.00 was raised.

This is a wonderful amount of money and I want to thank each and every player for doing their bit in raising it.  I’m very proud of each and every one of them.

£300.00 will go to Children In Need and £150.00 will go to FareShare.

Once again a huge THANK YOU!!!

Children In Need 2021

This Friday is Children In Need. As many of you know, Sheen Lions FC has supported Children In Need over the years and is delighted to support it once again.

In addition, Sheen Lions FC will also donate to FareShare, the charity Marcus Rashford has supported, helping to feed children around the country.

Now we are no longer in lockdown, the plan to decide how much we donate,
will revert to what we usually do. For every goal scored and every clean sheet kept on Sunday, by Sheen Lions players, the club will donate the following:

  • £5.00 for every goal scored
  • £10.00 for every clean sheet

It’s a really good incentive for all the players to do their bit, feel involved and help contribute. I am sure you agree this is the right thing to do, even more so in these very difficult times, and will support the club in supporting these worthy charities.

Sarah

Sheen Lions Remembering

U13 Lions Remembrance

Sheen Lions teams and our visitors observed a silence in Remembrance of those that have lost their lives in War before our matches on 14th November

Defibrillator Availability at Sheen Lions Venues

A reminder that defibrillators have been available at Sheen Lions venues for a number of years.

Palewell Common

For Saturday training and all home matches.

Our defibrillator is kept in the front window of the café at Palewell Common.

Rosslyn Park

For midweek training.

  • The best one for Sheen Lions to use is in the changing block on a shelf on the right hand side, just before the men’s toilet.
  • The other is in the main bar, behind the bar.

Guidance

If there is a player (or statistically much more likely an older spectator) who is unconscious and not moving or breathing it may be that their heart has stopped. Basic life support (checking the airway, breathing and pulse and using chest compressions as per the training course) should not be delayed.

It is then that somebody should run and get the defib machine. It may be that the person doing the basic life support won’t know about the availability of the defibrillator machine and so you can make a real difference by remembering that we have one at the café.

The rest is straightforward as when connected to the collapsed person by the two chest electrodes the machine delivers an electric shock automatically if it is needed. When opening the lid a recorded message says what to do.

Remember that this machine is only useful if basic life support (chest compressions etc) is being done well from the outset. It’s essential to keep yourself updated with these life-saving skills.

Registering With The FA and SYL

To Play in the Surrey Youth League and the Surrey County Women’s and Girls League players must be registered on the FA system. Age Groups U08 and older are registered, younger age groups do not need to send in anything unless specifically requested.

The instructions below will guide parents through this process.

Please note that you cannot ignore your email Spam folder, you must check it every day or two. You will be getting messages from the FA registration system and you need to act on them.

October 2023: I have changed the approach to connect a Parent’s FAN to the child’s FAN, instruction below are updated accordingly.

Actions Needed

Providing Proof Of ID

If you receive an email from registrations1@sheenlions.org asking for “Proof Of Age Required“: you must reply on this email attaching a photo of your child’s passport page. If they do not have a passport then their birth certificate.

If you are new to the Club then you will certainly receive this email, you can be ahead of the game by sending in the document when you register to join and have paid.

Providing An ID Photo

If you receive an email from registrations1@sheenlions.org saying “ID Photo Required“: you must reply all on this email attaching the photo requested.

Make sure that you read http://sheenlions.com/id-photo-on-fa-site/, I am very fussy about the photos because the SYL and SCWGL are very fussy.

Make sure that your email is sending the full sized version of photos, some phones down sample by default, this is no good.

Player’s FAN

A FAN is a personal account on the FA system. All players including children must have their own FAN

If your child already has a FAN I will have already found it and connected it to the Club. If I have not found a FAN I will create it. Usually I will wait till I receive Proof of ID before I do this. PARENTS SHOULD NOT CREATE A PLAYER FAN but if your child already has one let me know its FAN number? (registrations1@sheenlions.org).

Parent’s FAN

If your child is less than 16 then at least one parent must have a FAN and this has to be connected to the child’s FAN so that they can give Consent for the child to play for the club.

If your child already had a FAN you may already be connected. If not, or if I have created the child’s FAN then I will cause the FA system to invite you to connect using the email address you have registered with.

Parent Already Has FAN

This means that you have a FAN and it uses the email address I know about. I believe that the FA message is now easily dealt with.

Parent Does Not Have FAN

The FA message will know that you do not have a FAN (associated with the email) and it will guide you to create one.

Once you have created your FAN you should be able to deal with connection to your child. If you have difficultly ask me to resend the connection request, you will now have a FAN and it will be easy to deal with as above.

Player Over 16

Once over 16 a parent does not give Consent to play for the Club, the child does this. For this to happen the the child’s email address must be on their FAN. You can put this on yourself or email it in to registrations1@sheenlions.org and I will add it.

This usually affects new joiners, U16 that join during the season after their 16th birthday and U17 (younger U18).

Consent To Play

Once the child has a FAN and the Parent is connected (or player email added over 16), the FA system can be asked to send a Consent request. To play for the Club there must be a positive reply.

Sheen Lions Cubs Squad

We do not want to turn players away in the younger age groups, however demand is high and there is a limit to the number of teams we can support playing in the Surrey Youth League.

If a player cannot at the time be included in a match squad (Lions, Pride, Hoops or Rangers) then they will be offered the opportunity to register with Sheen Lions in our Cubs squad and so to continue their footballing experience with us.

Cubs players are registered with the league and can be selected for a match by any match squad manager. We will move players into the match squads when their development justifies their inclusion and when a space can be made available.

Cubs players are members or Sheen Lions and registered by us with the Surrey Youth League. They cannot train or play for any other Club.
